The concept of Sustainable Development championed by the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) is proven to be one of the most successful models in sustainable regional development. The increasing number of applications enrolling for GGN membership is the solid evidence of the acceptance of the concept.
Tailing from the increasing number of Global Geoparks, there is a need to ensure that the true GGN concept of sustainable development is cascaded down to the geoparkmanagers/ administrators. This certainly will increase sustainability of a Geopark, but this is a huge task for Geopark managers. In order to achieve this noble goal having a Sustainable Geopark Management is crucial.
The vast differences in the developmental status of GGN members between the European and the Asia Pacific geoparksmay lead to different issues and challenges that required specific attentions. Hence, there is a pressing need to connect all the Geopark Managers in this region to share their experience, challenges, and best practices in steering their respective Geoparks towards achieving sustainable development goal vision by the Geopark Concept.
Objectives
The objectives of the regional workshop are:
1. To boost and enhance connectivity of GGN members.
2. To share experiences, challenges,and best practices for sustainable management of the Geopark.
3. To disseminate and exchange ideas and knowledge on the concept of sustainable development.
4. To promote better understanding on concept of GGN networking in this region.
Participants
The course is open to Geopark staff members (priority is given to the Asia Pacific Geoparks) working on Geopark, geotourism, geosite, management and landscape topics, as well as to aspiring geopark in Asia Pacific region.
